Arthur Kipps hires a skeptical young actor to help him recount his terrifying story and rid himself of the fear that tortures him daily. This story unfolds during the funeral of an elderly recluse, where Arthur sees the Woman in Black: A mysterious, ethereal, wraithlike creature creating an atmosphere of foreboding, ominousness and mystery wherever she goes. Her spectral grace and piercing eyes mesmerize and terrify the locals, the mere mention of her frightens them. Audiences are invited to witness Arthur’s journey as he overcomes his tantalizing fears. As you delve deeper into Kipps’ darkest memories and fears, the line between reality and make-believe blurs. Will they manage to exorcise the fear gripping Kipps’ soul? This show is suitable for children 12 years and older.

This season begins in October with Woman in Black, written by Stephen Malatratt, based on the novel by Susan Hill, and directed by Nicole DesLauriers. Previously, the Royal Canadian Theatre Company has “done some more comedic, farcical shows in our fall slot, so it seemed right to do something more spooky as performances usually land around Halloween”, says Norris. Arthur Kipps has a creepy story to tell but struggles to find the right way to share it. A young actor helps him present his eerie tale. As Arthur’s frightening story unfolds, the actor helps him bring the story to life. This hair-raising show promises to leave you spooked.
