The Royal Canadian Theatre Company is thrilled to present its spectacular upcoming season led by Artistic Director, Kerri Norris. These three live productions will be touring in Surrey and New Westminster throughout 2024 and 2025. “This is officially our Book Club season… and we’d love you to bring out your book club and celebrate our literary season,” notes Artistic Director Kerri Norris.
This season begins in October with Woman in Black, written by Stephen Malatratt, based on the novel by Susan Hill, and directed by Nicole DesLauriers. Previously, the Royal Canadian Theatre Company has “done some more comedic, farcical shows in our fall slot, so it seemed right to do something more spooky as performances usually land around Halloween”, says Norris. Arthur Kipps has a creepy story to tell but struggles to find the right way to share it. A young actor helps him present his eerie tale. As Arthur's frightening story unfolds, the actor helps him bring the story to life. This hair-raising show promises to leave you spooked.
What holiday season would be complete without a Royal Canadian panto! This December and January brings a new interpretation of the beloved long-haired princess, Knotted: Rapunzel’s Story. Adapted from a Brothers Grimm fairy tale, this musical brings toe-tapping music, corny jokes and slapstick comedy for every age. Cheering and booing is encouraged! Norris shares her excitement about the upcoming pantomime: “We’ve never done Rapunzel’s story before and are very excited to add our own Panto twist to this classic fairy tale.” This is a great production for a child’s first-ever theatre experience.
Spring features the WORLD PREMIERE of We Don’t Talk About Book Club, an entertaining, new comedy written by local playwright, Patricia Brooke. Presented in March 2025, this hilarious show promises to leave you laughing. This play tests friendships, old and new, as they navigate the ever-fascinating world of monthly book clubs. Norris says, “We had a reading of the first act and it was a perfect fit for this season’s spring show.” This production answers the age-old question about book club: does anyone ever read the book?
