The Royal Canadian Theatre Company is hosting a new fundraiser to make theatre more accessible for everyone. They are hosting an online 50/50 draw that opens at the end of July via rctc.rafflenexus.com and closes on September 28th at 5 PM. This fundraiser will support ASL interpreters at all of their relaxed performances during the season and bring in an Education Assistant to support their Annual Mentorship Program during Knotted: Rapunzel’s Story.
By purchasing a raffle ticket, you will directly support the inclusion of an ASL interpreter during our relaxed performances. This crucial service ensures that the full experience of RCTC’s production will be enjoyed by the d/Deaf and hard of hearing community. In addition, support from the raffle will help fund an Education Assistant for our Mentorship Program, which costs thousands of dollars. The Mentorship Program is dedicated to nurturing talent, teaching professional behaviours and creating a safe space over 4 months of rehearsals and performances. The inclusion of an Education Assistant will make the Mentorship Program more accessible to children with physical, mental, and behavioural needs. This Education Assistant will provide crucial support during rehearsals and performances, ensuring every child can fully participate, learn about theatre, and develop their creativity.
To be entered to win 50% of the pot, you can purchase 3 tickets for $2 or 10 tickets for $5. Once you purchase your tickets, you can sit back and relax knowing that you supported accessibility in live theatre. The Raffle will close on September 28th at 5 pm, and a winning ticket will be drawn at 6 pm.
This year’s annual pantomime, Knotted: Rapunzel’s Story, will feature relaxed performances at both venues, in partnership with the City of Surrey and Massey Theatre Society. These sensory-friendly performances are designed to be welcoming to audience members with disabilities or a range of other challenges. Features of a relaxed performance include less intense sound and lighting cues, the ability to enter and exit the auditorium freely, audience lights that are never fully turned off, and tolerance for audience noise, movements, and fidget devices. Additionally, performers will introduce themselves at the start of the show to ease anxiety and further explain any potentially frightening moments. These relaxed performances are also ideal for those with babies or toddlers.
Join RCTC in making theatre accessible to all and nurturing the next generation of performers. Your contribution makes a significant difference.
