The Royal Canadian Theatre Company is proud to offer “Relaxed Performances.”
Relaxed Performances are offered for those patrons with Intellectual, Learning, Communication and other Sensory challenges.
It is sometimes difficult to strike a balance between making live theatre accessible to all and still being sensitive to the issue of potentially disturbing other audience members. This unfortunately often results in some members of our community not being able to attend live theatre.
However, we are proud to offer a solution. In order to redress the balance and make theatre available to all The Royal Canadian Theatre Company is presenting “Relaxed Performances” on selected show dates. These are sometimes called “sensory friendly performances” and are specifically designed to make theatre more welcoming for audience members with autism spectrum disorder, sensory, communication or other intellectual challenges.
There’s still time to donate through the #givingchallengeca ! Every dollar donated gets us one step closer at a chance of $20,000. Click the link in our bio to learn more.
The Royal Canadian Theatre Company is a theatrical and event entertainment producing not-for-profit society.
RCTC has been in operation since 2006 to the present, working with their community to bring new and interesting stories at reasonable prices for all.
We firmly believe that every person deserves to be a part of live performance and were the first company in the Fraser Valley Relaxed Performances to audiences in Surrey and New Westminster who have intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, anxiety, autism and/or economic difficulties.
We have supported other local charities, including the food bank, through monetary donations and other theatre companies as a prop, set, and costume lender.
RCTC is proud to offer children and youth acting classes in partnership with the Clayton Community Centre in Surrey.

The theater exists as a safe space in that it is an empty space. It is a place that is meant to be filled with people, stories, and songs. The magic of theater rests in its ability to transport us to alternate locales in order to encounter a range of perspectives on the world.
